iGEM McMaster’s Dry Lab team is responsible for using computational modelling to simulate biological systems.
They analyze large quantities of experimental data from the wet lab and use data science tools such as machine learning to corroborate and predict experimental results, and gain insights inaccessible by in vitro methods alone. Dry lab is also interested in using computer games or apps to engage the general public and increase their awareness about our projects.
The 2017-2018 dry lab project can be broken down into several components:
- We will be working with next generation sequencing (NGS) data obtained by the wet lab and aggregate the results in order to determine what gene mutations causes the resultant protein to aggregate.
- We will use available literature and data from wet lab to model the toxicity of different variants of the amyloid beta protein.
- We will be collaborating with the human practice team to create a video game depicting NGS in order to inform the public about the technology and its potential societal impacts
